A Con Edison worker from Valley Cottage was shot and killed on the George Washington Bridge Tuesday night in what police say was a road rage incident, leaving his Rockland County family searching for answers.
Koran Irvine, 46, was shot in the right shoulder around 7:15 p.m. on the New Jersey-bound upper level of the bridge as he drove home after working an overtime shift, according to police and his family. He was a father of two.
A cousin told The Post that Irvine was devoted entirely to his wife and children.
“He’s a family man. Has always been a family man, and he lived his life 100% for his family, stayed out of trouble. And I am in disbelief at this point in time,” the cousin said. “He was a man that lived for his family 100%, the only thing that he loved near and dear to his heart as much as his family was the Jets.”
Relatives said his marriage was something others noticed immediately.
“From just their dynamic and how you would experience it in person, you just felt that love in the air,” one relative said. “They really loved each other. They were a special couple. The kids too, they loved their dad and it’s not too long ago they celebrated his birthday.”
Family members described Irvine as a man who brought energy and warmth into any room.
“He is always the light of the party,” the relative said. “He had so much life, was very attentive to everyone, always wanted to know people’s needs. He was so inviting.”
He was also remembered as someone who kept his own struggles to himself, even while mourning the recent loss of his mother.
“Even when his mom passed away a few years ago, he was obviously going through a difficult time, but never made it about himself,” the relative said.
A person of interest in the shooting surrendered to police less than 24 hours after the attack and was being questioned by investigators as of Wednesday afternoon.
