The June 21 operation, the last publicly reported strike before this recent action, reportedly killed two and wounded six others, according to Fox News. Those earlier hits illustrated both the reach and the risks of maritime interdiction in international waters and littoral zones. The strategy depends on accurate intelligence, nimble forces, and the political will to use them where legal authorities allow.
From a Republican perspective, this posture is overdue. For years critics argued that policies prioritizing diplomacy and development without robust security measures left a gap cartels exploited.
