Blynda Vidock, a longtime Baytown, Texas resident, recently celebrated her 105th birthday surrounded by family. Born in 1921, Vidock says her long life comes down to faith, healthy habits and staying connected to others.
“I think I’ve been made Queen for a day, and I’ve got my 15 minutes of fame, so you better enjoy it because it won’t come again,” Vidock said, according to Fox 26. “I wonder every day when I wake up in the morning, ‘This is another day, Lord, why am I here?’ Every day is a blessing!”
“The good Lord put me here for so many years, and it’s His life through me,” she continued.
Vidock grew up in Palm Beach, Florida, before moving to Texas after meeting her husband, Charles “Chuck” Vidock, while volunteering for the USO during World War II. The couple spent nearly four decades together before he died of brain cancer. Her family now spans five generations, including three sons, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Vidock said she has stayed active throughout her life, describing herself as “very athletic,” with tennis and swimming among her favorite pastimes. She also credited eating well and doing things in moderation, along with what she called “good genes.”
She pointed to changes in how families live today compared to when she was younger. “We live faster nowadays than we used to, and people are so busy they don’t have time to be a family, sitting around the table eating properly,” she said. She added that she has found simple ways to connect with others: “Just smiling or talking to people is all I needed to do to make them happy.”
According to Fox 26, Vidock remains completely independent. The outlet noted that while good genetics give people a baseline for living past 100, lifelong habits such as daily movement, low-inflammation diets and meaningful social interaction remain key to extending both lifespan and health span.
