Left-wing streamer Hasan Piker, a prominent figure among progressive Democrats, said in a recent livestream that he wants “Chinese style communism” inside the Democratic Party and referenced staging a “struggle session” against Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, according to video circulating on social media.
“I want Chinese style communism to happen inside of the Democratic Party. I want to do cultural revolution shit. We’re doing a struggle session Chuck Schumer… people can now throw their old tomatoes at Cuck Schumer,” Piker said, according to the clip.
A separate clip attributed to Piker includes the line: “I will throw you in prison. I want Chinese style communism to happen inside of the democratic party right now. I want to do cultural revolution shit.”
Piker has appeared alongside numerous elected Democrats and progressive candidates over the past several months. Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed brought Piker to campus rallies at the University of Michigan and Michigan State University, appeared with him in Dearborn, and attended a Detroit pool party with him the night before the primary. Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Debbie Dingell and Rep. Summer Lee were present at some of those Michigan events.
Former Rep. Cori Bush brought Piker to a May Day rally in St. Louis. Saikat Chakrabarti appeared with him at an event in San Francisco. Adam Hamawy campaigned with him in New Jersey.
New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani had Piker at a campaign rally and on election night, and Sen. Bernie Sanders rallied with him and sat for a joint interview. Several New York City Democratic Socialists of America-aligned candidates, including Melat Kiros, Chris Rabb, Claire Valdez and Aber Kawas, also shared events with Piker.
The College Democrats of America invited Piker to speak at its 2026 summer convention, where he told the crowd: “No more to Trumpism, but no more to the Democrats who compromise, who conciliate, and who betray us,” adding, “No more to the fascist reactionaries, but no more to the Democrats who will collaborate and cooperate with the fascists, who will fund ICE, who will fund Israel, who will help poison the planet, who will stiff workers and help bosses.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appeared with Sanders on Piker’s “Fighting Oligarchy” interview, and Reps. Ro Khanna, Ilhan Omar and Jamaal Bowman, along with Nithya Raman, Tom Steyer, Francesca Hong and Darializa Avila Chevalier, have also appeared on his program.
Spencer Pratt, a former Los Angeles mayoral candidate, has criticized Piker’s remarks and public appearances in Mao-style clothing, writing on X: “Hasan Piker dressed as Mao, brainwashing your kids at college. They’re communists. This was always communism.” Pratt also wrote that “Mao killed more people than Hitler” and argued that Piker’s recent comments amount to admitting he wants to “imprison and kill democrats in a literal communist revolution.”
Piker has not issued a public response to Pratt’s comments as of this writing.
