A new investigation by Fox News Digital has identified 54 organizations it says are connected to the student protests that erupted across France in October and merged into a wider nationwide wave of unrest over the weekend. The report traces activity in cities including Paris, Montpellier, Marseille, Bordeaux, Strasbourg and Saint-Étienne.
According to Fox News Digital, the network includes communist parties, revolutionary socialist groups, labor unions, environmental activists, Muslim student advocacy groups, Palestinian-solidarity organizations and international media outlets. Of the 54 groups identified, the investigation found that only 16 — roughly one in three — are student or youth organizations, including communist youth groups and a Muslim student association. The other 38 are described as adult-led communist groups, labor unions, political parties, revolutionary-left organizations, advocacy groups and international propaganda outlets.
Named groups include the Gilets jaunes (Yellow Vests), a far-left movement that joined this weekend’s protests, and La France Insoumise (LFI), the far-left socialist political party also known as France Unbowed.
A global message
As the protests spread, Vijay Prashad, executive director of Tricontinental Ltd., posted a message on X linking the unrest to demonstrations elsewhere in the world: “Paris-New Delhi-Buenos Aires,” quoting a line from the British punk band The Clash — “Let fury have the hour, anger can be power.”
Tricontinental is a nonprofit funded by Neville Roy Singham, an American-born tech entrepreneur who lives in Shanghai and has been linked to several left-wing advocacy groups. Fox News Digital’s report notes that organizations tied to the Singham network, including Tricontinental, CodePink and the New York-based outlet BreakThrough News, amplified coverage of the weekend’s protests.
BreakThrough News ran a headline reading “ANTI-MACRON PROTESTS ROCK FRANCE” alongside a video montage showing scenes from Montpellier, Paris, Marseille, Bordeaux, Strasbourg and Saint-Étienne — footage that included smoke, Palestinian flags, flames and police using clubs on demonstrators, set to dramatic music. The footage also featured politicians from La France Insoumise.
In a separate interview with BreakThrough News, Jodie Evans, Singham’s wife and co-founder of CodePink, pointed to the protests in France as part of a broader pattern of youth unrest and promoted a planned November campaign in Washington against U.S. military spending.
“I want people to look at France, Spain, and India,” Evans said, urging Americans to join the planned demonstrations.
What comes next
Fox News Digital reports that an international coalition of 28 communist and socialist youth organizations is now organizing a coordinated strike across 12 European countries under the slogan “Fight for Our Future, Not Their Wars!” The coalition is calling for walkouts, demonstrations, assemblies, blockades and occupations.
The findings come as France’s student protests, which began over grievances about school conditions, have widened into broader demonstrations touching on austerity, policing and military spending.
