Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., posted a video on social media over the weekend showing her walking with her husband near a Minneapolis lake, days after federal agents raided her home and seized her phones and passport as part of ongoing investigations into immigration questions and financial disclosures.
“Less scrolling, more strolling,” Omar wrote alongside the video. “Enjoying our beautiful Minnesota lakes.”
The post came after federal agents searched Omar’s home on Oct. 12. According to a federal filing, as of Wednesday the search warrant had not yet been fully executed, suggesting investigators may pursue additional steps in the case. Federal documents connected to the investigation have referred to Omar’s “real name” as Ilhan Nur Said Elmi.
Among the items seized from Omar were her personal phone, her passport, and other devices, including one she has described as her “travel phone.” Her attorneys have asked that the seized property be returned.
First Public Appearance Since the Raid
Omar made her first public appearance since the search on Friday, when she went to vote early. Reporters at the scene asked her about the investigation and whether this might be her “last chance to vote here.” Omar responded that she would “continue to vote.” She also wrote on X that her name had “always” been Ilhan Omar, pushing back on the government’s use of a different name in investigative filings.
Replies to Omar’s weekend video post were disabled, as they were on her earlier statement about voting. One of the few visible responses came from former Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo., a former colleague of Omar’s in the group of progressive House Democrats sometimes called “the Squad,” who wrote, “We love this!”
Omar is scheduled to appear at an event Monday with Twitch streamer Hasan Piker.
