Country singer Jessie James Decker set off a wave of reaction online after posting a video showing herself covering her nose and spraying a bare foot that appeared next to her seat on an airplane.
Text over the video read, “Someone’s foot smells so bad on the plane.” Decker captioned the post with a question for her 4.4 million Instagram followers: “Before you come at me…What would you have done?”
Commenters quickly took sides. Many backed her response to the alleged odor.
“The nerve of some people!” one user wrote. “I’d do just what you did!!! Spray the stinky foot!!!” another said. A third suggested the offending passenger “should’ve been escorted off the plane.”
A commenter who said they used to work as a flight attendant criticized passengers who rest their feet on armrests.
“As a past flight attendant, when I saw people put their feet on the arm rest. I immediately told them no, this isn’t their home. Respect the plane & people around you. That is so F in nasty. I would have smacked his foot with my elbow.”
Other followers questioned whether the foot actually belonged to a stranger or to Decker’s husband, Eric Decker, a former NFL wide receiver. The couple married in 2013.
“Please tell me that’s Eric’s foot and not some random person’s foot!” one commenter wrote. Another guessed, “I’m guessing that’s Eric’s foot? You are far too sweet to do that to a stranger…” A third said, “That better be your husband. I would’ve moved!”
Some followers treated the video as a joke between the couple, with one writing, “You’re being silly, right? It’s your husband behind you.”
Others offered alternative ways to handle a stray foot in the cabin, including tickling it, drawing on it with a marker, or faking a sneeze before spraying it.
Decker did not say in the post whose foot appeared in the video. She and Eric Decker, author of “Secret Sauce,” have four children together: Vivianne, Eric Jr., Forrest and Denver.
