Minshew Rallies Cardinals Past Cowboys in Overtime at AT&T Stadium

The Arizona Cardinals beat the Dallas Cowboys 33-30 in overtime Sunday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, capping a wild second-half comeback sparked by backup quarterback Gardner Minshew.

Arizona trailed 17-3 late in the third quarter when the team benched struggling starter Jacoby Brissett in favor of Minshew. Brissett had completed just 10 of 23 passes for 119 yards with an interception and was sacked four times, including twice on consecutive plays during his last possession.

Minshew changed the game almost immediately. On his first snap, he completed a seven-yard pass to Devin Duvernay. Running back Tyler Allgeier then broke off a 63-yard touchdown run, cutting the Cowboys’ lead to 17-10.

Arizona kept chipping away, and Minshew eventually led the Cardinals on a drive that ended with a touchdown pass to Michael Wilson, tying the score at 30-30 in the closing seconds of regulation. A missed extra point from kicker Chad Ryland kept the game knotted instead of giving Arizona the lead.

Dallas got the ball first in overtime but was forced to punt after the Cardinals’ defense held. Minshew then led Arizona on an eight-play, 44-yard drive, setting up Ryland for a 42-yard field goal that won the game and gave him a chance to make up for the earlier miss.

The win pushed Arizona to 3-5 on the season. The Cardinals had entered the game at 2-5, having lost five of their previous six, with Brissett completing 64.9 percent of his passes for 1,600 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions and an 82.8 passer rating on the year.

Minshew’s Path to Arlington

Sunday marked Minshew’s first regular-season appearance of the year for Arizona. He was originally drafted by Jacksonville in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and threw for 3,271 yards and 21 touchdowns against six interceptions as a surprise rookie starter.

He spent two seasons with the Jaguars before moving to Philadelphia in 2021 as Jalen Hurts’ backup, then signed with Indianapolis in 2023, taking over for an injured Anthony Richardson. That season, Minshew threw for 3,305 yards and 15 touchdowns, earning his first Pro Bowl selection.

Minshew joined the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024, a stint cut short by a broken collarbone, and spent last season backing up Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City before landing with Arizona.
