Caitlin Clark Explains Why She Skipped the Custom Colts Jersey at Lucas Oil Stadium

Caitlin Clark has a confession about her football loyalties, and it has nothing to do with the Indianapolis Colts, even though her Indiana Fever play just a short walk from Lucas Oil Stadium.

Clark, who has become a familiar face at Kansas City Chiefs games alongside Taylor Swift, addressed the matter during an appearance on the “Not Gonna Lie” podcast, hosted by Kylie Kelce, who is married to Jason Kelce and is Swift’s sister-in-law through Travis Kelce.

During the conversation, Clark recalled attending a Colts game last season and explained why she declined to wear a custom jersey the team had given her featuring her name. “Honestly, in real time I wasn’t thinking I’m not gonna put this on because I don’t want, like, the Chiefs fans mad or Travis mad or whatever, but after the fact, I didn’t realize that all my teammates had it on, so that made me look worse,” Clark said.

Kylie Kelce was understanding of the decision. Clark said she felt it was best for her “to be loyal to the red,” a nod to the Chiefs’ colors. She still has the Colts jersey, telling Kylie, “It’s cool! They put my name on it.”

Kylie shared that she has faced similar criticism for not wearing red to Chiefs games at Arrowhead Stadium with her husband. Clark herself was back at Arrowhead on Oct. 18, cheering on Kansas City with Swift.

Despite skipping the jersey, Clark spoke highly of the Colts’ ownership, which is run by the daughters of the late Jim Irsay: Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt and Kalen Jackson. Carlie oversees day-to-day operations and is known for standing on the sideline during games with an earpiece to follow live play calls. “I love the Colts. I think it’s so cool, the Irsay daughters and what they do,” Clark said.

Clark’s ties to the Kelce family extend beyond Kylie. Donna Kelce, mother of Travis and Jason, wore a Clark jersey and spoke with the Fever star before a game in September.

The Colts, meanwhile, have dropped four straight games and appear headed for a significant roster shake-up. Running back Jonathan Taylor has emerged as a possible trade candidate, though ESPN has reported the team currently does not intend to trade him.
