Former FX Writer Sues Network Over Knife Incident and Labor Claims

A former FX writer has sued the Los Angeles-based television network, alleging it failed to address a workplace safety incident involving a colleague who brought a knife into the office, and that it denied her disability accommodations and proper pay for long work weeks.

Diara Bradley filed the lawsuit on Sept. 30 in Santa Monica Superior Court. According to the complaint, Bradley worked at FX as an associate writer/producer starting in August 2021 before she was terminated in June of this year.

Bradley said she wrote social media content for several of the network’s shows, including “The Bear,” “Snowfall,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “American Horror Story,” according to her LinkedIn profile. Her broader body of work at the company includes “Sons of Anarchy,” “Louie” and “Fargo.”

In the suit, Bradley alleges that an “overworked co-worker” brought a knife into the office during her time at the company. She claims FX management took no corrective action after she reported the colleague’s behavior.

The complaint also describes other health issues Bradley says the network failed to accommodate, including chronic migraines and back pain she attributes to a fall caused by exhaustion at the worksite. Bradley says her psychologist informed FX of a medical condition requiring accommodation.

Bradley alleges she regularly worked 50- to 60-hour weeks without proper meal breaks or full pay for the hours worked, according to the suit.

She claims her termination was connected to her disability, her request for accommodations, her complaints about workplace safety, and the wage-and-hour issues she raised, the suit alleges.

FX, formally known as FX Networks LLC, is owned by Disney and has operated since 1994. Bradley has also worked for Cartoon Network, BET and CNN, according to her LinkedIn profile.

FX has not yet responded to a request for comment.
