Hicksville Trailer Palace, an adults-only vintage trailer motel near Joshua Tree in San Bernardino County, will permanently close at the end of June 2027 after 16 years in business.
The owners announced the decision Saturday on Instagram, calling it the end of an era for what they describe as the first-ever California trailer motel.
“After 16 amazing years as the 1st ever California Trailer Motel, we’ve made the decision to close the doors at Hicksville Trailer Palace forever, at the end of June 2027,” the post read.
The property, located in the Joshua Tree area, features 11 uniquely themed vintage trailers, including The Pee-Wee, a circus-themed trailer inspired by “Big Top Pee-wee,” and The Integratrailer, decorated with an alien and sci-fi motif.
News of the closure drew reactions from fans and celebrities alike. Actress Christine Elise McCarthy commented on the announcement, writing, “Devastating! I am on the wall of fame there.”
Plus-size model Tess Holliday, who had booked a stay at the property last year but couldn’t make it and instead sent friends in her place, also responded to the news. “I am so sad…I know it brought magic to so many people. Thank you for keeping the kitschy magic alive for nearly two decades,” she wrote.
The business said it plans to shift its focus entirely to its sister property, Hicksville Pines, located in Idyllwild in Riverside County.
“As bittersweet as this decision is, we think we can do great things going forward and focusing all of our time,” the owners said in the announcement.
Guests with existing reservations at the Joshua Tree-area property will still be able to stay, as the business intends to keep operating normally through its final day. Those hoping to visit before the doors close are encouraged to book soon.
“Have we been sitting on your bucket list? Well, THIS IS IT! There’s still time to come experience the magic before we close our doors,” the Hicksville Trailer Palace said.
Anyone holding an outstanding gift card for the Joshua Tree location is being urged to pick dates now, though the business said it will continue honoring Trailer Palace gift cards at its Idyllwild property after the closure.
