The Pledge is Bigger Than Obama Administration

Should high schooler be forced to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance? He’s been exercising his First Amendment rights by refusing to stand for nearly a year. But Mason Michalec had a different teacher one morning who turned him in to the principal, and earned him a 2-day suspension. And there’s more where that came from if he doesn’t start standing for the Pledge.

Mason isn’t happy with the way our government is going and not standing during the Pledge is his personal expression of that dissatisfaction.

But is he considering the respect that our active military and veterans deserve? They’ve given their lives to secure our freedoms. The Pledge of Allegiance isn’t about what the current administration is doing. It’s much bigger than that.

If our children understood the real meaning of our country, how it was founded, and what it stands for, then they’d understand how to go about changing it instead of harboring anti-American sentiments.

It takes a lot of work to change out our elected representatives. But every voter has the opportunity have their voice be heard and to advocate for new representation. If Mason understood this and really wanted to advocate for change, he’d find a way to work on a campaign instead of a silent protest sitting down in a classroom for less than 2 minutes a day.
