Marine veteran, Andrew Tahmooressi is still in a Mexican prison 137 days after missing the exit and ending up in Mexico with guns in his vehicle.
There’s so much going on in the news that there’s hardly time to give 5 seconds of air time to him on the national news… but we need to anyway. He’s one of our citizens. One who fought for our freedoms. We should be doing what we can to help him. He’s stuck in a Mexican prison. He’s been treated badly (chained naked to a bed, beaten, and who knows what else). Even if he broke a law, we should be ensuring that he’s treated fairly and humanely.
The White House has a citizen petition area on their website. They promise that if a petition garners 100,000 signatures within a specified time, they will issue a formal response. The petition to demand release of Sgt. Tahmooressi closed on May 31st with more than enough signatures. Still no formal response.
The Blaze covered this story at the beginning of June. They quoted a White House spokesperson as follows:
“Each petition that crosses the threshold of 100,000 signatures will be reviewed by the appropriate policy staff and receive a response. Response times vary. We’re not in a position to comment on the substance of a response before it has been issued.”
Maybe we need another petition to respond to the petition? A letter writing campaign to President Obama? Or a demonstration on the White House lawn or National Mall?
What’s it going to take to get a response? And even more importantly, some action and a resolution?
