Retired Army Vet Living With PTSD Is Helping Prevent Military Suicides

James Van Thach, retired U.S. Army Captain, has dedicated himself to serving as  a suicide-prevention specialist who works with military organizations nationwide, giving speeches and mentoring other vets to fight symptoms of PTSD that can lead to suicide.

Van Thach uses his own military experiences to help fellow veterans dealing with PTSD. “It’s my duty as a veteran to try to save some of them,” Van Thach said.

Van Thach is truly a hero. Not only did he serve in the Army to help make our country safer, he is also humble in his approach to help other veterans in need.

“Our injuries don’t define us,” Van Thach said, according to a press release from 2013. “We control our own destinies and set the example on how to live our lives positively and be inspirational to our fellow Americans, as well as an asset to our country.”

It’s so refreshing to hear such an inspirational story from a man who went into a war zone and risked his life for our freedom and continues to serve our country by helping our wounded soldiers who are scared and alone.

Have you thanked a soldier lately for their service?
