Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV) is reportedly contemplating a return to the Democratic Party and potentially entering the presidential race, as per multiple sources.
According to Bret Baier of Fox News, there are indications that Manchin, who departed from the Democratic Party in May to become an independent, is mulling over re-registering as a Democrat and joining the presidential race.
Manchin is known for his moderate Democratic views. Baier also mentioned that CNN anchor Jake Tapper was the first to break this news.

Shortly after President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential election, reports emerged that Manchin is contemplating returning to the Democratic Party.
In a subsequent statement, Biden expressed his complete backing and endorsement for Vice President Kamala Harris to become the party’s presidential nominee.
“My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden wrote. “My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats – it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
After Biden declared that he would not run for reelection, a number of prominent Democrats including former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) have expressed their backing for Harris as the party’s potential nominee.
Previously, Manchin had entertained the idea of running for president as a third-party candidate.
However, in February, he put an end to months of speculation about his potential presidential bid.
