Bill Maher has made a return, and given the current 2024 race, you might expect him to be thrilled. While he’s likely pleased that Biden is no longer the Democratic nominee, he recently had CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on Real Time where he questioned her about the network’s coverage.
Maher is known for being an anti-Trump liberal but also maintains a level-headed approach.
At times, he feels compelled to remind his audience that while he thinks Trump is awful, he has also criticized Democrats and liberals for what he sees as nonsensical issues such as transgender surgeries, mask-wearing, and concerns over child predators in Nickelodeon and Disney.
He is decidedly against “woke” culture.
Once again, Maher delivered a pointed critique of CNN’s supposed unbiased news coverage. Collins had appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert where the audience laughed when Colbert referred to CNN as a middle-of-the-road news network—Maher clearly sees this as nonsense too.
“I know what the conservative side of America thinks [about CNN], and I don’t blame them,” said Maher.
The HBO host observed Kamala Harris’ speech and acknowledged its quality, but disagreed with the exaggerated portrayal of it as a historic epic throwdown by CNN.
The coverage of the convention and Harris was overwhelmingly positive, with only Scott Jennings offering a dissenting conservative perspective.
Bill Maher criticized this as tokenism, suggesting that having a lone Republican on panels dominated by multiple liberals is merely for show.
Another contributor, Collins, defended the network’s approach, arguing that it was a Democratic convention and that liberal analysts were given priority over Mr. Jennings.
However, things took a turn when Collins attempted to argue that CNN’s coverage of the campaign to push Biden out was biased, claiming that the network is far from fair.
She also highlighted her family’s ties to Alabama and their support for Trump, who are viewers of her show. Additionally, Collins made the case that Dana Bash, Jake Tapper, and Abby Phillip should not be labeled as Democrats.
“They come across that way,” Maher said.
The comedian also said that while Trump’s remarks about the press are bad, in his opinion, he finds Kamala’s aversion to the press even more offensive.
“But she’s [Kamala] kind of saying: ‘I don’t need you. You don’t matter. You’re not relevant anymore.’ To me that’s even worse than I hate you,” said Maher.
