Springfield, Ohio has recently made headlines due to concerns over the burden an influx of Haitian immigrants is placing on local residents, along with reports of alleged bomb threats.
Some media outlets, including CNN’s Dana Bash, were quick to link these issues to former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH).
However, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, a Republican, set the record straight regarding the bomb threats.
During a press briefing on Monday, Governor DeWine confirmed that the 33 reported bomb threats were determined to be “hoaxes” and emphasized that there was no real danger to the public.
He clarified that the threats originated from overseas, with some coming from “one particular country.” DeWine assured Ohioans that these threats were not credible.
“So 33 threats, 33 hoaxes. I’ll make that very, very clear. None of these had any validity at all,” DeWine stressed, underlining the need to separate fear from fact.
The governor also outlined additional security measures being taken in response to the situation, although the specifics were not disclosed.
While the mainstream media may have pointed fingers at political figures, DeWine’s statements provided a more grounded explanation, focusing on the external source of the threats rather than attributing them to domestic politics.
His clarification aims to quell public anxiety and restore a sense of security in Springfield amid heightened tensions over immigration and safety.
