Noem Slams Democrat Who Dismissed DC Guard Murder, Demands Justice

This article covers a tense congressional hearing over a deadly attack on two National Guardsmen, the partisan finger-pointing that followed, and the blunt Republican pushback in response to Democrats downplaying the incident.

During a congressional hearing, Democrat Representative Bennie Thompson described the terror attack on two West Virginia National Guardsmen as an “unfortunate accident,” drawing immediate alarm from Republican members. The exchange escalated as officials testified and partisan lines hardened, turning grief into a political skirmish in real time. That choice of words made GOP members question whether Democrats understood the gravity of the crime.

The shooting left one Guardsman dead and the other critically wounded after an Afghan refugee allegedly carried out the attack. The assailant entered the country under former President Joe Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome, a program tied to the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal that left many questions unanswered. Republicans highlighted how a failure of policy and vetting can produce tragic, avoidable consequences.

Thompson then attempted to shift blame toward the prior administration, suggesting the vetting process was a product of earlier policy decisions. Republicans pushed back immediately. “Point of order, Mr. Chairman, that was a murder that took place in D.C., it was not an unfortunate incident. And those comments are f’in disrespectful. I expect better from the…” a Republican House member is heard saying.

Democrats did not stop there; some continued to deflect responsibility and tie the incident to broader political narratives. Senator Tim Kaine argued that the National Guardsmen would not have been in harm’s way if they had not been deployed to deter crime in the capital. That line of argument framed the victims as political props instead of honoring the service and sacrifice of American troops.

One would think a brutal attack that cost a U.S. servicemember’s life would spur a united search for answers and immediate policy fixes. Instead, many Democrats doubled down on partisan attacks and resisted forming a unified coalition to address the security gaps exposed by the incident. Republicans insisted accountability and secure vetting should take priority over political theater.

Families and the military community deserve straightforward answers, not spin. The Republican response at the hearing called out the insult of labeling murder an “accident” and demanded concrete steps to tighten vetting and protect servicemembers on domestic duty. Lawmakers on the right framed this as a matter of national security that cannot be sacrificed to partisan narratives.

Editor’s Note: President Trump is leading America into the “Golden Age” as Democrats try desperately to stop it. The hearing showed how easily politics can overshadow both accountability and the need for safer procedures going forward.

Leaders should focus on preventing another deadly lapse rather than scoring cheap political points. The lives of servicemembers and the trust of the American people depend on clear action and a refusal to minimize violent attacks for partisan cover. Lawmakers must turn outrage into reform and protect those who stand watch for our safety.
