President Trump announced he will sign an order directing the Department of Homeland Security to immediately pay Transportation Security Administration staff, a move he says is needed to end chaos at airports caused by a partial DHS funding lapse.
President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post that he will sign an order instructing Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin to immediately pay TSA employees. He framed the step as an emergency fix to keep airports moving while political leaders squabble in Washington. The announcement arrived amid reports of long lines and significant staffing shortfalls at airports across the country.
Republican leaders say the problem began when Democrats refused to fund parts of DHS beginning Feb. 14, and that decision has produced nationwide delays for travelers. Airlines and airports have struggled with hour-long lines, missed flights, and frustrated passengers, while roughly 400 TSA agents reportedly quit during the disruption. To relieve pressure, the administration also directed ICE personnel to assist at crowded checkpoints this week.
Trump accused Democratic leaders, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, of siding with criminal illegal aliens rather than protecting Americans, and he repeated sharp language in his post. “They are refusing to fund Immigration Enforcement unless the Republicans agree to their Open Border Policies, which will never, ever happen again,” he wrote. “They almost destroyed our Country, allowing 25 Million People to enter from Prisons, Mental Institutions, and Insane Asylums, those that are Drug Dealers, and thousands of Murderers, many of whom killed more than one person.”
He thanked TSA agents and ICE staff for stepping up and insisted he would not let partisan maneuvering paralyze travel or public safety. Trump said he will not allow the “Radical Left Democrats to hold our Country hostage any longer,” he said, adding that swift action was required. That sense of urgency prompted the decision to push an executive action intended to deliver immediate pay and ease the short-term crisis.
In his post, Trump went further to explain the legal rationale and the intended outcome in blunt terms: “Because the Democrats have recklessly created a true National Crisis, I am using my authorities under the Law to protect our Great Country, as I always will do! Therefore, I am going to sign an Order instructing the Secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin, to immediately pay our TSA Agents in order to address this Emergency Situation, and to quickly stop the Democrat Chaos at the Airports.”
The president’s order is presented as a stopgap to restore staffing and calm travelers while negotiations over DHS funding continue. From a practical standpoint, immediate pay could ease recruitment and retention pressure at checkpoints and help airports process passengers faster. Legal experts and congressional critics are likely to weigh in on the scope of presidential authority, but the administration is prioritizing swift relief for a visible public problem.
Conservative voices argue this step is a straightforward, necessary use of executive authority to protect Americans’ safety and mobility, and they frame Democratic tactics as the cause of the mess. The White House sees the move as both a policy fix and a political statement: funding and border security are now linked in the fight over DHS appropriations. Supporters say action is overdue and the order will send a clear message that federal employees should be paid and that airport operations must be stabilized immediately.

Democrats are causing chaos at airports and inflicting pain on the American people simply because they want to keep illegal aliens from being deported.
