Newly released 911 recordings offer a detailed account of the September 7 shooting death of David Lee Jr., 37, who was killed after allegedly trying to break into a home in Mobile.
FOX 10 TV obtained the calls, which capture the events leading up to and during the shooting from two separate callers that night.
The first call came from a business owner who spotted Lee on his property around 9:13 p.m. He told the 911 dispatcher that Lee “was just climbing at the top of our barbed wire getting in when I saw him.” The business owner said Lee then went up some stairs before falling after apparently failing to get through a window.
Minutes later, a second call came in from the wife of the Mobile homeowner. She told the dispatcher that an unknown person was trying to force his way into their home, saying, “My husband is armed and he is trying to get the person to leave. He is knocking at our window.”
The recording then captures the sound of a window breaking, followed by a gunshot. When the dispatcher asked whether the intruder had made it inside the house, the wife responded, “No! My husband had to shoot.”
Lee was pronounced dead at the scene. No further details on charges or an official investigation status were included in the released material.
