A 52-year-old Winfield man is being held in the Sedgwick County Jail after a fight broke out at Wichita’s Arthur B. Sim Golf Course on Friday evening, leaving one man knocked unconscious and another struck in the head with a golf club.
Wichita police say officers were called to the course around 6:20 p.m. Friday for a disturbance involving Scott Denning and three Wichita men. According to a preliminary investigation, Denning had approached the group to apologize for an errant golf shot. The exchange turned into an argument, and then a physical fight.
Denning was booked early Saturday morning on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, assault, battery, and criminal damage to property, according to Kake News. A photo taken at the jail showed the side of his face heavily swollen from the altercation.
Police said a 38-year-old Wichita man was knocked unconscious during the fight. Two other Wichita men, ages 28 and 52, were then chased by Denning, who was armed with a golf club, according to the Wichita Police Department.
“Investigators were told the 52-year-old Winfield man then chased the 28-year-old and 52-year-old Wichita men while armed with a golf club, striking the 52-year-old Wichita man in the head,” the Wichita Police Department said in a release.
Denning was treated at a local hospital before being booked into jail on a $50,000 bond. As of Tuesday afternoon, he remained in the Sedgwick County Jail. No other arrests have been made, and the Wichita Police Department says the investigation is ongoing.
