Police in Queens shot a woman armed with a knife Friday night after responding to what officials describe as a chaotic home invasion scene in which several people were stabbed, according to the NYPD.
The incident unfolded around 9:40 p.m. after officers received multiple 911 calls about trouble at the location, according to ABC 7. When officers arrived and knocked, no one answered the door.
Once inside, officers found the woman struggling with two men. They managed to separate her from the men, but police say she then moved toward the officers while holding a knife.
NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera described the moments leading up to the shooting. “The female pointed with her left hand at one of the males across the room but did not raise her right hand. The officers continued to issue the same verbal commands, the female still did not comply and moved in the direction of the officers with a knife in her hand,” Rivera said.
“She was within several feet of the officers when an officer discharged his firearm, striking her. She fell to the ground, an officer deployed his taser, and another officer recovered the knife,” Rivera added.
Three men were stabbed during the incident, the New York Post reported. The woman herself was also stabbed, though it has not been determined who stabbed her.
The woman was taken to a hospital and is listed in stable condition. No further details about the identities of those involved or the circumstances leading to the home invasion have been released.
