“Primetime,” the Robert Pattinson film based on Chris Hansen’s “To Catch a Predator” era, becomes available to buy or rent digitally starting Tuesday, November 3 at 12 a.m. Eastern (9 p.m. Pacific on Monday, November 2). It will not be available on any streaming subscription service for some time.
The film, directed by documentary filmmaker Lance Oppenheim in his feature debut, was written by Ajon Singh and adapted from Luke Dittrich’s 2007 Esquire article “Tonight on Dateline This Man Will Die.” Pattinson plays Hansen, the real TV personality who hosted NBC’s “To Catch a Predator” for Dateline NBC from 2004 to 2007, luring alleged predators into sting operations targeting minors.
Platforms including Amazon Prime, Fandango At Home and Apple TV will carry the digital release. Pricing varies by platform; on Prime Video, a digital copy is listed to pre-order for $24.99. No DVD release date has been announced.
When will it stream on HBO Max?
“Primetime” is expected to eventually land on HBO Max under a 2023 agreement between A24 and Warner Bros. Discovery that brings A24’s theatrical releases to the streaming service. No official streaming date has been set.
Under that arrangement, known as a “Pay-1 deal,” HBO Max becomes the first pay-TV outlet to carry an A24 film after its digital and home-media release. Past examples have varied: the A24 title “The Drama” began streaming on HBO Max about four months after its theatrical release and roughly three months after its digital release, while “The Invite” reached HBO Max just three months after leaving theaters.
Based on those patterns, “Primetime” could arrive on HBO Max sometime around late December or late January, though the exact timing remains a guess until a date is officially confirmed.
HBO Max subscriptions start at $10.99 a month with ads, or $18.49 a month ad-free. Viewers looking to save money across multiple services can also subscribe to a Disney+, Hulu and HBO Max bundle, priced at $19.99 a month with ads or $32.99 a month without.
For now, anyone who wants to watch “Primetime” without waiting for a streaming date will need to buy or rent it digitally starting Tuesday.
