Los Angeles Rams safety Quentin Lake has apologized to Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert after mocking his play during a recent interview, following a game in which Lake intercepted Herbert’s pass.
Lake made the comment while appearing on the “St. Brown Podcast,” hosted by Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and his brother Equanimeous St. Brown. Discussing the interception he made against the Chargers on Sunday, Lake criticized Herbert’s performance.
“He was throwing deli meat out there,” Lake said on the podcast. “He’s seeing ghosts. I don’t know what’s going on, but we knew we were gonna get a couple. At least one.”
According to the Los Angeles Times, Lake later sent Herbert a text message apologizing for the remark, though he said he had not received a response.
“I don’t know if he read it,” Lake said. “He probably says, ‘I don’t care about it anymore. I’m not trying to see this. It doesn’t matter. You said what you said.’ But at the same time I … felt like it was right for me to at least say, ‘Hey, man, I didn’t mean it in any disrespectful way.'”
The Chargers enter the matchup with the Rams having struggled this season, and Herbert currently leads the NFL with ten interceptions thrown.
