Analicia Chaves, known publicly as Ana Montana and the longtime girlfriend of NBA guard LaMelo Ball, was booked into the Mecklenburg County jail earlier this week on felony drug charges stemming from a months-long investigation into a Charlotte pharmacy transaction.
The 36-year-old Instagram model faces two felony counts of obtaining controlled substances by fraud or forgery, along with two misdemeanor counts of simple possession of a Schedule IV drug, according to court records.
Investigators say the case traces back to February, when Chaves allegedly went to a local Walgreens to pick up a prescription for Xanax. Law enforcement alleges the prescription had been filled using a physician’s stolen DEA registration and provider credentials.
Chaves’ attorney, Matthew Pruden, released a statement on her behalf disputing any suggestion that she forged documents or created a fraudulent prescription herself. The defense says she was a patient who picked up a prescription written by a treating physician.
“To clarify, the charges allege that a doctor who used a fraudulent DEA registration and NPI number prescribed Alprazolam for Ms. Chaves, and that she used the prescription written by the doctor to obtain the prescribed Alprazolam at a pharmacy.”
Police records confirm that LaMelo Ball, who recently moved to the Minnesota Timberwolves, is not named or implicated anywhere in the investigation.
The charges come during a significant personal stretch for the couple, who welcomed a son, LaOne, in January, just before Ball began his offseason training.
Chaves posted bond shortly after her arrest and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 20.
