Chase Briscoe Edges Teammate in Closest Charlotte Finish Since 2005

Chase Briscoe won back-to-back NASCAR Cup Series races on Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, nosing ahead of teammate Christopher Bell in the final seconds for the closest finish at the track since Jimmie Johnson beat Bobby Labonte in the 2005 Coca-Cola 600.

The win was Briscoe’s second straight after he waited 19 weeks for his first victory of the season back in July. It also trimmed points leader Kyle Larson’s lead in the championship standings to 65 points with four races remaining.

Larson finished sixth on Sunday, which was his worst result of the playoffs so far. His finishes since the Chase began at Darlington on Labor Day Sunday have been 5, 1, 2, 1, 2 and 6. He holds a 49-point lead over Denny Hamlin heading into the final four races of the season.

Violent Wreck Involving Wallace and Bowman

During the race, Bubba Wallace and Alex Bowman were involved in a hard, unexpected crash. Bowman took responsibility afterward, saying, “I overcorrected and just did a s–t job.”

Separately, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Michael McDowell had an altercation after the race ended, though the circumstances behind the dispute were not immediately clear.

Kyle Busch Honored at Charlotte

NASCAR held an official Celebration of Life for Kyle Busch at Charlotte on Friday night. As part of the tribute, his 11-year-old son, Brexton Busch, drove Kyle’s No. 8 Chevrolet and performed a burnout in front of the crowd. Drivers can begin competing in NASCAR’s Truck Series at age 16.

Daytona Hooters Closes Its Doors

In Daytona Beach, Florida, the Hooters restaurant located across from Daytona International Speedway closed permanently last week after serving race fans for years near the track.

Four races remain in the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season as drivers head toward the championship finale.
