Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff survived a shooting attempt on Sunday as he was being driven out of a Mumbai soccer stadium, with video showing motorcycle-riding gunmen opening fire into his BMW as he waved to fans.
Shroff escaped with only minor injuries to his arm and shoulder, caused by gunpowder and flying glass, according to the NDTV report. His driver and an unidentified rickshaw driver were also hurt in the attack, though police have not disclosed the extent of their injuries.
The shooters fled the scene and abandoned their motorbike near a train station. Police later arrested three men, ages 17, 18 and 22, in Kota as they traveled by train toward Delhi. Authorities said the suspects had been planning to cross into Nepal.
Investigators are examining whether the attack was an attempted hit on Shroff ordered by the Lawrence Bishnoi organized crime group. According to police, the three suspects were allegedly paid just 50,000 rupees — about $525 — to carry out the shooting.
Shroff is the son of veteran Hindi film actor Jackie Shroff and Ayesha Shroff, who was crowned Miss Young India in 1980. He is known for roles in “Heropanti” and “Baaghi,” and lent his voice to the Hindi dub of “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” Since 2024 he has also played for Mumbay FC, a fourth-tier Indian soccer club.
Gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi, 33, remains imprisoned in a high-security facility in Gujarat, but his network — designated a terrorist entity in Canada — has been linked to previous attacks on prominent figures, including a 2024 incident targeting Bollywood star Salman Khan’s home. The group has also been tied to the October 2024 killing of politician Baba Siddique, who was shot near his car while leaving his son’s home in Mumbai and later died in the hospital.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde condemned the attack and vowed a crackdown on organized crime in the state.
“These attempts to intimidate people will not be tolerated, and we will put an end to this hooliganism,” Shinde said, according to the Hindu.
“We will respond to them in the language they understand. Whichever gang might be responsible for it, we will not leave them.”
