Apple TV Confirms 'Slow Horses' Season 7 Will Adapt 'Bad Actors,' With Season 8 Already Greenlit

Apple TV has renewed its spy drama “Slow Horses” for both a seventh and eighth season, though an official premiere date for Season 7 has not yet been announced.

The streamer confirmed the Season 7 renewal on July 8, 2025, ahead of Season 5’s debut. Apple TV followed up on September 15, 2025 — the eve of Season 6’s premiere — by also renewing the show for Season 8, making it the service’s longest-running series.

Based on recent release patterns, new episodes are likely to arrive in fall 2027, continuing the show’s established one-season-per-year rhythm. Like previous seasons, Season 7 is expected to run six episodes.

What Season 7 Will Cover

Per Apple TV’s official press release, “In season seven, Lamb and his Slow Horses are on the hunt to find and neutralize a mole at the heart of the British Government before they can bring down the state. Season 7 is adapted from the Bad Actors novel in Mick Herron’s Slough House book series.”

A teaser shown at the end of the Season 6 finale offered more detail on where the story picks up. In the footage, Taverner reveals that “the head of the GRU, Vassily Rasnikov, arrived on UK soil unannounced,” prompting Lamb to note, “That man sent a death squad to murder four of my joes.”

The preview also shows Taverner working in the field, with Lamb telling her, “Takes some fucking balls going after you,” and Taverner vowing, “I’m gonna chop that little fucker, Sparrow, off at the ankles.” Shirley Dander appears to be headed to rehab after an incident involving a bus windshield, with Lamb saying she needs to “get on top of impulse control issues.”

Other glimpses include helicopters and boats, a warning that “we could be looking at a death toll into the thousands,” and Lamb shouting at an unseen character, “You’re a spy. You know it. I know it.”

The Source Material: ‘Bad Actors’

Season 7 draws from “Bad Actors,” the eighth novel in Mick Herron’s Slough House series. According to the official synopsis from Herron’s website:

“A governmental think-tank, whose remit is to curb the independence of the intelligence service, has lost one of its key members, and Claude Whelan — one-time head of MI5’s Regent’s Park — is tasked with tracking her down. But the trail leads straight back to the Park itself, with Diana Taverner as chief suspect. Has Diana overplayed her hand at last? What’s her counterpart, Moscow’s First Desk, doing in London? And does Jackson Lamb know more than he’s telling? Over at Slough House, with Shirley Dander in rehab, Roddy Ho in dress rehearsal, and new recruit Ashley Khan turning up the heat, the slow horses are doing what they do best, and adding a little bit of chaos to an already unstable situation.”

Herron has written nine full novels in the Slough House series, along with standalone novels, novellas and short story collections.

Season 8 Already in the Works

Apple TV’s press release for Season 8 teases a direct confrontation between the show’s two central figures: “Season 8 sees Jackson Lamb and Diana Taverner face off in their most explosive confrontation yet. When a botched attempt to blackmail the Park puts Taverner on the offensive, it is up to Lamb to unravel one of MI5’s darkest secrets and put an end to it once and for all.”

No premiere date has been set for either season. Apple TV has not announced further casting or production details.
