Chase From Jurupa Valley Ends With Suspect Trying to Drive Into Mexico, Port Shut Down

A man wanted on grand theft charges out of Jurupa Valley led deputies on a high-speed chase across several counties Wednesday evening that ended when he drove into the San Ysidro port of entry in an apparent attempt to cross into Mexico, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office and local station Fox 5.

Deputies located the man, who had outstanding warrants for grand theft, and tried to stop him. He fled instead, triggering a pursuit that stretched from Riverside County into San Diego County before ending at the border crossing.

Shots were fired as authorities tried to stop him from entering Mexico, though the full circumstances have not been made public. Fox 5 initially reported no injuries and said the man was taken into custody. Later reporting indicated the suspect was wounded during the incident, though officials have not confirmed that detail, his identity, his nationality, or what charges he may ultimately face. The investigation remains ongoing under federal oversight.

Video posted to social media shows the moment federal officers attempted to stop the man’s vehicle as he drove toward them.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection temporarily closed the San Ysidro port of entry while officers processed the scene. The crossing, one of the busiest on the U.S.-Mexico border, has since reopened to traffic.
