After securing her latest historic gold medal victory on Friday, Olympic superstar Simone Biles made a cryptic political allusion.
Biles, who became the most decorated U.S. gymnast in Olympics history with her eighth medal on Tuesday, furthered her achievements by winning a gold medal in the women’s all-around gymnastics event on Thursday, surpassing the previous record-holder Shannon Miller’s seven Olympic medals.
She shared a message on social media that referenced a talking point made by former President Donald Trump regarding illegal aliens taking jobs from black Americans.
After earning her historic gold medal victory on Friday, Olympic superstar Simone Biles made a subtle political statement.
Biles, who now holds the title of the most decorated U.S. gymnast in Olympics history with eight medals, shared a message on social media that referenced a remark made by former President Donald Trump about illegal immigrants displacing jobs for African Americans.
“Iconic photo of the GOAT mastering her black job and collecting Gold Medals,” read the post from singer Ricky Davila.
“I love my black job,” Biles responded, adding a black heart emoji.
Some media outlets interpreted the message as a critique of Trump’s statement, but the intention behind the interaction was unclear.
Biles also shared a supportive post from NBA star LeBron James regarding the interaction.
Trump made the remarks during a debate with President Joe Biden, who has since withdrawn from the presidential race.
Some critics accused Trump of racism and xenophobia, and he reaffirmed his comments at other public appearances by asserting that Hispanic Americans had their jobs taken away by illegal immigrants as well.
Biles has previously voiced her opinions on politics.
In 2021, she expressed outrage and revulsion at the rioting in the U.S. Capitol.
She also defended athletes who are criticized for expressing their political views publicly.
In 2018, Biles disclosed that she had been sexually assaulted by former USA Gymnastics team physician Larry Nassar, who was convicted on seven charges of sexual assault and sentenced to up to 175 years in prison.
