Trump Reveals GENIUS Reason He Refuses Intel Briefings

Former President Donald Trump has announced that he will not accept the intelligence briefings typically given to presidential nominees.

Trump expressed concerns about potential accusations of leaking classified information if he were to receive these briefings. U.S. intelligence agencies usually provide these briefings to candidates to prepare them for the responsibilities of the presidency.

This decision comes amid controversies surrounding the discovery of government documents, including classified material, at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence by the FBI.

Democrats have questioned Trump’s reliability with sensitive information.

In an interview with DailyMail, Trump explained that while he can receive the briefings, he sees it as a potential setup and has chosen to decline them.

It is important to note that these briefings are not legally required, and there is uncertainty regarding whether the Biden administration would even offer this privilege to Trump.

Previously, Biden had prevented Trump from receiving any post-presidential intelligence briefings due to concerns over his behavior and trustworthiness.

This decision was made before Trump faced indictment related to handling classified documents.

Typically, these intelligence briefings take place in late summer or early fall and provide a broad overview of national security issues.

More detailed and sensitive information is only shared after a candidate has been elected.

“I don’t want that, because as soon as I get that, they’ll say that I leaked it,” Trump said. “So the best way to handle that situation is, I don’t need their briefing. They come in, they give you a briefing, and then two days later they leak it, and then they say you leaked it. So the only way to solve that problem is not to take it.”

The briefings provided to presidential nominees are a time-honored tradition intended to equip the potential next president of the United States with the knowledge and understanding of national security and international affairs.

Typically commencing after a candidate has officially secured their party’s nomination, these briefings cover a wide range of critical security concerns without delving into operational details reserved for the elected president.

The practice of giving classified intelligence briefings to presidential nominees was established in 1952 by President Harry S. Truman during the Cold War era.

Truman felt it was essential for candidates to be well-informed about national security issues to ensure a smooth transition of power and immediate readiness to handle crises upon taking office, drawing from his own experiences when he assumed the presidency in 1945 after President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s sudden death.

While these briefings are designed to prepare potential presidents, they are deliberately somewhat limited in scope and can be customized based on the interests and requests of the nominees.

The briefings take place in secure facilities, typically at locations like the FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C., or sometimes at a facility close to the candidate’s home for security and confidentiality purposes.

Notable figures such as John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon received similar intelligence briefings during the 1960 campaign, with Kennedy reportedly showing active engagement compared to Nixon’s approach.

There have been instances where these intelligence briefings significantly impacted candidates as well; for instance, after receiving a briefing about Soviet missiles in Cuba, Kennedy became deeply involved in the issue, which later defined part of his presidency during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
