Texas Bakery Owner Sparks Boycott With Anti‑MAGA Post

A Flower Mound bakery owner’s blunt social posts on Independence Day have sparked heavy backlash, putting a two-time Food Network champion and her shop at the center of a local controversy that could cost customers in a conservative community.

The owner of Hive Bakery in Flower Mound posted a heated message on the Fourth of July that explicitly rejected celebration and attacked MAGA supporters, and that post has people talking about whether she just chased away her customer base. The owner, 45-year-old Haley Popp, is a two-time Food Network Champion and the voice behind the controversial remarks. In a town that skews affluent and conservative, those words didn’t land quietly.

Flower Mound sits in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and is widely known as a conservative, family-oriented suburb where small businesses depend on local goodwill. Hive Bakery’s visible political cues and community presence made the post feel personal to many residents. When a business in a red neighborhood openly derides a large portion of its potential customers, the fallout is predictable.

In the post, Popp ridiculed conservatives, saying:

We expressed not wanting to celebrate the 4th this year, as we’re embarrassed, afraid, and disappointed in what this country has become. MAGA is adversarial. It’s a cult of unintelligent, rabid, immoral sycophants. Those conservatives who still have rational thought have left the MAGA movement. Those who remain and continue to support the most corrupt administration in our nation’s history, are here, wishing for our bakery to burn to the ground. Enjoy a little taste of this Americana.

The post signed off, saying, “We are open tomorrow from 10-6 as we refuse to observe this holiday. F— this fa$ci$t regime and every single person perpetuating the downfall of our country. Still holding out hope for an AOC revolution.” That line moved the dispute from political opinion into a flashpoint that many saw as intentionally inflammatory. When a business chooses to frame a holiday and its neighbors in those terms, patrons notice.

Another Facebook post from June 30 expressed the same sentiment, saying,

We’re not feeling patriotic. The 4th of July seems ridiculous given the state of the country. We’ve never been more embarrassed of what America has become.
We will be open this 4th, fully stocked with plenty of desserts, but please forgive our non-festive attitudes as we sift through the ashes of the country we once were.
We’ll continue to fight for our rights, using freedom of speech and protest, which are honestly the most American things you can do. We’ll continue to use our voice with the hope that this fa$ci$t administration will crumble and democracy will be restored once more.
There isn’t a lot to celebrate this weekend. We continue to mourn the great country we could’ve been. Come see us for a slice of momentary bliss.

The backlash was swift and loud, including harsh comments and calls for boycotts that Popp addressed in a video where she read hate messages aloud. Locals pointed to the bakery’s recent menu choices, including pride-themed pastries, as part of a pattern rather than an isolated incident. In a conservative suburb, overt political positioning can easily translate into lost foot traffic and sustained revenue drops.

From a business perspective, the math is simple: alienate half the neighborhood and you risk losing half the sales. Hive Bakery’s situation shows how personal political expressions from business owners can collide with market realities. Customers who come for pastries expect a neutral, welcoming spot; when that changes, so can their spending habits.

This episode underscores a broader point about running a neighborhood shop where political identity matters. Flower Mound residents are not shy about taking their dollars elsewhere when they feel disrespected. For a decorated baker like Popp, talent and accolades may not be enough to protect a storefront when the surrounding community feels attacked.
