Texas Brothers Plead Guilty, Steal $8M Crypto in Minnesota

Two brothers from Texas admitted guilt for a September 19, 2025, home invasion in Grant, Minnesota, where they kidnapped a family and forced transfers of more than $8 million in cryptocurrency before being identified and arrested near Houston.

Isiah Angelo Garcia, 25, and Raymond Christian Garcia, 24, both from Waller, Texas, pleaded guilty to one count each of Interference with Commerce by Robbery. The case centers on an armed scheme that targeted a Minnesota family and turned into a cross-state criminal investigation. Federal prosecutors say the theft involved digital assets and a prolonged period of terror for the victims.

According to court filings, the brothers traveled from Texas to Minnesota with the plan to seize access to the victim’s cryptocurrency accounts. On the morning of September 19, 2025, they entered the family home, threatened residents with firearms, and detained the household. The defendants reportedly used zip ties and other restraints while holding the family at gunpoint for hours at a time.

Investigators say Isiah Garcia, with assistance from his brother, physically abducted Victim 1 and transported him to a remote family cabin in northern Minnesota. There, the defendant coerced the victim into retrieving additional cryptocurrency storage devices and completing transfers from those wallets. The process was deliberate and focused on authentication and extraction of digital funds.

Over the course of the operation, the Garcia brothers forced transfers that resulted in the loss of more than $8 million in cryptocurrency. The family’s son managed to call 911 during the ordeal, prompting the suspects to flee the scene. Law enforcement found items left behind at the home and used that material evidence to identify and track the suspects to the Houston area, where authorities arrested them.

Both men acknowledged in court that they used firearms to threaten the victims and to facilitate the robbery. They also agreed to pay restitution exceeding $8 million as part of their pleas, and each faces a statutory maximum of 20 years in federal prison. Sentencing hearings will be set at a later date as the prosecution and defense prepare their recommendations.

“Violent schemes carried out for financial gain undermine the safety and security of our communities. When individuals resort to intimidation and force, they can expect a swift and unified law enforcement response. The guilty pleas entered today reflect our commitment to holding the defendants accountable for the choices they made,” said U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen.

“No one should ever feel unsafe in their own home,” said FBI Minneapolis Field Office Special Agent in Charge Christopher D. Dotson. “The kinds of violence and greed displayed by Raymond and Isiah Garcia will always be aggressively investigated by the FBI and our law enforcement partners. Thanks to the seamless partnership between the FBI, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and state and local law enforcement agencies from here to Texas, these defendants will now face sentencing in federal court. Home invasions, kidnapping, and robberies carry lasting impacts on victims and our communities. We hope this conviction will bring some measure of peace to the victims of this horrendous crime.”

“This crime struck close to home for many people in our area. It shook not only the victims involved, but it disrupted lives, created fear, and left residents wondering how something so violent could happen here. I’m proud of the work done by our investigators, deputies, law enforcement partners, and prosecutors who helped move this case forward. Today’s proceedings mark an important step toward accountability and justice for our community,” said Washington County Sheriff Dan Starry.

The investigation was led by the FBI and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, which coordinated evidence collection, witness interviews, and interstate tracking of the suspects. Prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney’s Office filed the robbery charge and will handle the federal case through sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rebecca E. Kline is prosecuting the matter on behalf of the government.
