The mistrial declared last week in the case of Lindsay Clancy, the Duxbury mother accused of strangling her three children in 2023, has drawn commentary from actress Alix Wilton Regan, who called the proceedings a sexist “Salem” witch hunt in a series of posts to her Instagram Story.
“A trial built on one man’s word. A mistrial delivered by another man’s ego. Salem never left Massachusetts,” one of Regan’s posts read.
In another post, Regan wrote about Clancy’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington: “I don’t think Kevin Reddington will ever fully understand what he has done for mothers watching this. There are women all over the world seeing a man stand in that courtroom and fight for something they once begged people i their own lives to take seriously.”
A third post from Regan showed a photo of a man groping a female statue’s breast, captioned: “Not all men, but always a man.”
Regan, who played Susannah Castleman in the 2017 film The Wife, is set to voice Lara Croft in the upcoming video games “Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis” and “Tomb Raider: Catalyst.” Her comments circulated after a Reddit user shared screenshots of her Instagram Stories, writing, “Alix Wilton Regan is the new actress for Lara Croft, and over the last few days she’s shown that she’s a lunatic on her Instagram. I was really hyped for this game, now I’m questioning that.”
The Duxbury Case
Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial on Friday after a jury could not reach a unanimous verdict. A lone male juror’s holdout blocked the panel’s other eleven members from clearing Clancy by reason of insanity, according to reporting on the case. The jury, made up of nine women and three men, deliberated for seven days and more than 36 hours before the mistrial was declared.
Clancy has acknowledged strangling 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan at the family’s Duxbury home in 2023, but her defense argued that postpartum psychosis left her unable to appreciate what she was doing at the time.
No new trial date has been announced.
