Actress Sydney Sweeney has drawn millions of views online for a hobby that has little to do with Hollywood: restoring classic cars.
Sweeney runs a TikTok account called Syd’s Garage, which has 2 million followers and features her working on what she describes as her “vintage dream car.” In one video with more than 5 million views, Sweeney appears in blue overalls while repairing a vehicle, captioning the clip, “Finished the rear suspension!”
Another video, which has topped 8 million views, shows her checking and replacing the brakes on a vintage Mustang. A third clip, viewed nearly 9 million times, opens with Sweeney saying, “Welcome back to Syd’s garage. Today, I’m going to show you a step by step process of how to check your tire pressure and fill your tires.”
During coronavirus lockdowns, Sweeney restored a 1969 Ford Bronco and documented the project for her followers. She was later photographed driving the cherry-red Bronco on April 26, 2024, in Beverly Hills, California.
Sweeney was born into a family of mechanics in Spokane, Washington, where she grew up around engines and tools and developed an early interest in cars.
Beyond the garage
Outside of her mechanical hobby and acting career, Sweeney has built a public profile through high-visibility advertising campaigns. She recently appeared in ads for the sports trading app Novig, and previously starred in promotions for Dr. Squatch soap, which led to a collaboration on a bar of soap incorporating her bathwater.
She also appeared in an American Eagle jeans campaign that drew significant online debate, and earlier this year launched her own lingerie line, SYRN, which she promotes herself in photos and videos for the brand.
Separately, it was reported last week that Sweeney is a ninth cousin, once removed, of Marilyn Monroe.
