The California Latino Legislative Caucus apparently isn’t open to all Latinos, or maybe they just aren’t taking any new members.
Latino Rocky Chavez of the 76th district was denied access. Why, you ask? Because he’s a Republican. The president of the Latino Caucus went so far as to suggest that he create his own caucus where Republicans would be welcomed. Maybe they should consider renaming the caucus to the California Latino Democrats Legislative Caucus, just to eliminate any confusion?
The Latino caucus’ Mission posted on their website states:
The Mission of the California Latino Legislative Caucus is to identify, promote and advocate on behalf of the professional, educational, social, political and cultural interests of the Latino Community.
The California Latino Legislative Caucus serves as a forum for members from the State Senate and Assembly to identify key issues affecting Latinos and develop avenues to empower the Latino community throughout California.
That sounds pretty straight-forward and inclusive of all Latinos. In fact, I didn’t find anywhere on their site that there was any partisan divide.
So much for inclusion and tolerance.
