Gov. Walz Was Arrested for Drunk Driving in 1995

Vice President Kamala Harris announced this week that she has chosen Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate for the upcoming presidential election in November.

However, critics wasted no time in raising several controversial issues about the progressive leftist politician.

One such controversy surrounds a 1995 incident in which Walz was arrested for drunk driving in Nebraska after being pulled over for speeding and found to have a blood-alcohol level well above the legal limit, according to Fox News.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that Walz’s prior congressional campaign initially lied about the incident before he eventually admitted the truth years later.

Official records obtained by Alpha News in 2022 revealed details of the governor’s DUI arrest, including a police report and court transcript.

In 1995, while working as a teacher and coach in Nebraska, Walz was caught driving 96 mph in a 55 mph zone.

A state trooper detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and he failed both a field sobriety test and a preliminary breath test.

Subsequently, he was found to have a blood alcohol level of .128, which exceeded Nebraska’s legal limit at the time.

Walz was booked at the county jail on charges of driving under the influence and speeding, which were later reduced to a single count of reckless driving through a deal with prosecutors.

His 2006 congressional campaign falsely claimed that his run-in with law enforcement was due to “misunderstandings” related to hearing issues resulting from his military service.

However, there is no mention of hearing issues in the police report or court transcript.

The latter revealed that Walz’s attorney at the time acknowledged his client had been drinking and sped away from law enforcement because he thought someone was chasing him.

As part of the plea deal dropping the DUI and speeding counts, Walz received a stern admonishment from the judge and was ordered to pay a $200 fine plus court costs.

He resigned from his school position at that time but his offer was rejected by the school’s principal.

During his 2018 campaign, Walz eventually admitted to what occurred in an interview with local media.
